Who Can Practice?

  • Ages 12 – 18 can practice the entire series.
  • Ages 8 – 12 can practice the floor series only, for $10 per class.

If the child is under 12, he or she must be able to manage themselves in the lobby area when not in class (during the standing series). Children must have a way of entertaining themselves while waiting to join the group for the floor series. We suggest that your child bring a book to read, homework, or a tablet (with headphones). Parents are responsible for the safety and actions of their children.

Can I bring my child to the yoga studio with me?

Yes! Parents may bring their child to class if they meet the minimum age requirements. The purpose of bringing a child to the yoga studio is to practice yoga with the parent. Students may not bring their children to the studio to watch or wait for the parent, while the parent practices.

I’ve never practiced yoga and I’m a little nervous. Do you have a special class for me?

All of our classes are designed for beginners. Everyone from the novice to the experienced yogi is welcome in our classes. There’s no reason to be nervous about your first class; it’s where everyone begins.

I run or do other forms of exercise. Should I do Bikram yoga, too?

Yes! Bikram yoga is excellent for helping align and strengthen your body and a great compliment to other forms of exercise. Many athletes practice Bikram yoga to heal and recover from stress their bodies experience while performing high-impact sports or other workouts.

Can I practice yoga with an old/new injury?

Yes! Bikram yoga helps heal old injuries and prevent new ones. The heat is therapeutic for your muscles, joints, and tissue.  For existing injuries and medical conditions, the healing process can be supported by the continued practice of Bikram yoga. We ask students to notify the instructor so she can help you during class and make sure we’ve placed an alert in your file. The general guide when practicing with an injury is: take it easy, listen to your body, and perform postures to your tolerance level. Sharp, pinpoint pain should be avoided—that’s when you should back off! Also, please consult your doctor about physical exercise with regard to your unique injury.

Am I allowed to leave the yoga room?

Yes, of course.  We do, however, encourage all students to stay in the yoga room for the entire 90 minutes. We suggest sitting down and taking as many breaks as needed. You may also drink water.  Moving between the high heat and the cool lobby actually puts stress on your body.

The class is a meditation, so part of the practice is building your concentration, determination and self control. You will be amazed how quickly your body acclimates to the heat and your mind is strengthened and disciplined. But not if you develop a habit of leaving the yoga room!

You don’t need permission to leave the room, but it improves your practice and the benefits for your body to stay for the entire 90 minutes. If you absolutely must leave the room, make sure the teacher knows and come back as quickly as possible.

What if I need to leave early?

Each class is 90 minutes. We suggest you select a time when you can stay to practice the entire class. We do not permit students to leave early unless it’s a very special circumstance. Bikram Yoga is designed to be practiced from start to finish, with each posture warming the body, stretching and opening certain muscle groups in preparation for the next posture. It is also a “moving meditation.” Stopping early to leave the room disrupts the meditation and cheats you out of the health benefits provided by the complete series.

What are your prices?

Start with our very best deal: The Unlimited Intro Month –a full month of unlimited yoga for only $65 (a single class is $20), and a free mat rental on your first day. This special offer is available to new and returning students who have not practiced with us in the past 6 months. For more information about pricing, see our Rates page.

How often should I practice?

Aim for 3 -5 times a week. The more often you practice, the quicker you see results. Sometimes it takes a few classes for your body to become acclimated to exercising in a heated environment. The more often you practice, the quicker you become acclimated.  We encourage new students to practice often from the beginning.  You’ll be amazed at how soon you crave this yoga every day.

What should I eat or drink before, during, and after class?

Come to class on an empty stomach – but don’t starve yourself! You’ll burn an insane amount of calories in class, so your body needs fuel to go! Most people find they need to allow 2 hours between eating and taking class. However, some students with high metabolism eat “a little something” (like a piece of fruit, yogurt, nuts, etc.) an hour or so before class. As you practice this yoga, you will quickly find what’s right for you. Please come to class well-hydrated. You should drink a lot of water throughout the day (half your body weight in ounces). Once class begins, hold off on water until “party time” – this is about 20 minutes into class and allows your body to heat up and your mind to stay focused.
